NYC Busvertising - Last Year 1,944 New Yorkers Saw Something and Said Something
September 23, 2007
The Eyes of New York, is a New York City MTA safety ad campaign displayed in newspapers, on television, posters, NYC Buses and Subways. The ad campaigns goal is to make consumers aware of their surroundings and to report anything suspicious to the proper authorities. According to the NY SUN, The MTA is spending $3 million to promote the 10 second ads in 4,000 T.V. spots and 84 print print ads over a four month period.
Does the number of incidents reported strike you as low or is it just me? Subwayblogger seems to think the number is low as well and makes some great points. It just may be that most of us are just may be oblivious to wrongdoers. Maybe we’re listening to our ipod and totally zoned out from what’s around us. Or could it be that some people just don’t have the motivation to make the call or tell somebody? Maybe nobody cares.
Here’s a great quote from the comment section by Todd from BNR:
So basically, if you see something, film it with your cell phone, punch the terrorist in the neck, then sell the tape and make millions.
Personally, if I witnessed someone or something that was suspicious, I would try to report it. But that’s just me. On a related note, I have actually called 911 a few times to report car accidents and pedestrian accidents. In those instances, I believed it was the right thing to do. Plus, it felt good knowing I was helping someone in need. Wouldn’t you want someone to do the same for you? Yeah, I thought so.
NYC Busvertising is an ongoing photo-journalistic series that I will produce highlighting some of the more creative and interesting ads seen on the sides of New York City buses.
