Manhattan Flatiron Building Collapse - 22 West 24th Street
October 28th, 2007 | Leave a CommentAt 8pm last night the building at 22 West 24th street in the Flatiron district of Manhattan collapsed. Luckily, nobody was hurt. Lot’s of coverage from NBC, The New York Times and the Gothamist.
According to the New York Times:
On Oct. 15, the Fire Department requested that the city Department of Buildings check the structure’s stability. The Department of Buildings issued a violation to the building’s owner for failing to maintain the exterior, and as a precaution, submitted a partial vacate order for an adjoining parking lot, officials said.
In 2003, there was a major fire in the building. I wonder if the fire and lack of follow up building maintenance attributed to the collapse.

Thanks to Phil di Video from WellcomeMat for editing this real estate blog panel footage so quickly.
Here’s an excerpt from my original post on Sellsius:
Public speaking is not something that I am that comfortable with, so my apologies for being a little rusty. During the panel introduction, I wanted to make one simple point - that blogging is a way to stand out from your peers and differentiate yourself. I asked the audience if they knew how many licensed real estate agents there were in New York State - someone yelled out 80,000. Amazing, I called the Department of State myself to get an accurate figure and they did not know the answer, Anyways, out of 80,000 agents, I could count on my two hands how many were known real estate bloggers. Is that an amazing statistic or what?
There are many ways to set yourself apart from your peers and competition. Blogging just so happens to be one of them. If you are an expert in something, a blog is a non salesy way to relay that expertise to the public. It’s a way to establish yourself as an authority on the subject. Blogging creates a two way conversation between you and your audience. Take photos, video and most of all - have fun. If your not ready to blog, just find some blogs that interest you and read them. You’ll be amazed at how much you can learn.
